Surfing in the Mentawais, Climbing Down Under (Frog Buttress, Arapiles and More) and a Winter at the Needles
Matt Shaner, Graduate Student, Caltech,

My gracious and trusting PhD advisors allowed me to spend five months in Australia pursuing my academic aspirations. Along the way I made sure to explore as much as possible. Join me while I share a wonderful adventure filled with surfing in the Indian Ocean and living out of a van and climbing along the east coast of Australia (while studying of course!). I will also share stories and pictures of climbing in the Needles in the southern Sierra Nevada where I spent most weekends this past winter. Teasers of catching 10+ lbs trout fly fishing in New Zealand and climbing desert towers in Utah may also make the cut.

The talk will be followed by a reception with free refreshments.

Alpine Club Talks are co-sponsored by the Sierra Peaks section of the Sierra Club.
