The roles

Steering Committee

President

Runs the club, calls meetings, plans the year, and represents the club to Caltech.

Treasurer

Handles reimbursements, trip and event expenses, and the club's accounts with Caltech.

Secretary

Runs the mailing list, handles membership requests, and sends club announcements.

Film Festival Coordinator

Organizes the club's film festivals: venue, screening license, tickets through the Caltech Ticket Office, and raffle donations.

Gear Officer

Looks after the equipment the club owns and lends out, including the specialist climbing and packrafting gear that does not go through the Caltech Y. Handles reservations and tracks what comes back.

Partnerships & Deals Lead

Finds and keeps the discounts members get, and talks to companies about sponsoring the club.

Activity Leaders

Climbing Commodore

Organizes climbing days and looks after the bouldering cave in Brown Gym, including route setting.

Hiking and Backpacking Trip Coordinator

Organizes hikes and overnight backpacking trips. Picks where and when, posts them on the calendar, and helps people sort out transportation.

Trail Run Tyrant

Runs the weekly trail run.

Currently Han Zhang and Julian Schmitt.

Talks Coordinator

Invites club members and visiting climbers to give talks on campus and books the room. A few evenings a year.

How to become an officer

Talk to one of the current officers if you're interested. Some positions are elected; open coordinator roles can also be filled during the year.

Most roles don't require previous club leadership or extensive outdoor experience. Being reliable and answering email matters more.
