What we do
The Alpine Club organizes hiking, backpacking, trail running, climbing, and other trips. Members can also borrow outdoor equipment, attend talks, and come to the club's mountain film screenings.
Members include students, postdocs, faculty, staff, JPL employees, and people from outside Caltech. Experience ranges from first-time hikers to experienced climbers and mountaineers.
The club was founded in 1987 by Fritz Nordby, though club records suggest Caltech outdoor trips go back to around 1950.
“To foster the Caltech outdoor community by encouraging mentorship, responsibility, inclusivity, and radness.”
